PocketChange Guiding Principles

Treat others with respect.

This is the foundation for all progress – every person from every walk of life just wants respect. There is value to every human life, totally separate from their ideas and beliefs, so treat your peers with respect even if you adamantly disagree with them. At its core, respect is a two way street.

Criticize ideas, not people.

If you actually want to make progress, focus on the issue at hand and steer away from attacking other people personally. Change occurs through being willing to listen, and no one will continue to listen if they’re constantly under attack.

Read more about our rules on Personal Attacks.

Connect with people you disagree with.

At the end of the day, we’re all human beings, and working together is the key to making progress. Have real conversations with people you intensely disagree with, because we’re all imperfect, and nothing will get better from destroying each other. Darkness cannot drive out darkness, only light can do that.

We have developed these principles to encourage a new and better online community… one that we believe will be more worthy of your participation. Have feedback? We’d love to hear it!
