Community Matters implemented the inside out method to address cyberbullying through 5 areas: relationships, student-centered empowerment, restorative practices, and changing social norms, in order to change the lives of cyberbully victims
Since 2000, the Safe School Ambassadors program has equipped nearly 60,000 4-12th graders in 1500 schools and 38 states with communication skills to stop cyberbullying and bullying to improve school climate
The School Climate Improvement plan was implemented by Petaluma City School District, and the following results were achieved:
34% fewer suspensions, and 28.5% fewer suspension days
2% increase in attendance, resulting in $950,000 more in annual revenue
11% performance improvement on state standardized tests
How Community Matters is making a difference
Community Matters provides cyberbullying services to school districts and schools in a variety of ways, including:
- Reviewing policies and procedures related to cyberbullying and offering recommendations for improvements
- Professional development training for administrators and staff
- Teaching students effective ways to stop cyberbullying through the Safe School Ambassadors®
- Delivering parent education workshops that increase their awareness of the problem and signs of cyberbullying and other forms of mistreatment.
This program provides proactive and responsive strategies for strengthening relationships. Community Matters offers a means to develop relationships that are essential to building community so that conflict is lessened. It addresses the internet side of relationships and helps build the skills needed to manage conflict and behavior, meet the needs of all impacted, and restore relationships.
